A year ago today

A year ago today, I didn't know it yet
You walked away from us. And quietly you left
There are so many things that could or should  be said
But words fail me so I'll just say I'm very glad we met

I'm glad we got a chance to talk, laugh and debate
about these things in life that confused or scared us.

I'm glad we got a chance to laugh and drink and share
great memories, great music and those weird films you liked.

And though our "In Bruges" day trip will not happen after all,
I'm glad you made it to France and got a glimpse of my own world.

You changed my life when you gave up, a year ago today.
But you also made me more determined than ever to keep going.
To keep meeting people and exchanging ideas,
to keep making new friends, and keep telling stories,
to keep on starting new projects and creating meaning,
to keep doing my best in all and every thing.

And in the many many years I hope I have left still,
I will carry with me the memory
of that gentle and sensitive young man I met at the Angel,
my good old local bar in old cloudy Britain.
